Waste not want not

Posted by Head Chiquita on Thursday, November 3, 2011, In : Recycle & Reinvent
If you find a lot of old materials in your craft room that are in good condition but you know you won't use them, get rid of them. You don't have to throw them away - instead you could donate them to a charity that collects art supplies for children going to school for the first time. There are also community art programmes that might benefit from them.

Doing this will bring even more joy to the pleasure of creating beautiful things (and you will have gained back some space to do what yo...

Labelling is key when archiving

Posted by Head Chiquita on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, In : Office Tips

If you want to avoid wasting time looking for documents, the key to archiving is labeling the box you put it in. A blanket description is required BUT add exact descriptions as well, e.g. HR Files 2010 and thereafter, Joe Soap, Jane Doe, Cliff Ric...

Using lists to stay organised

Preparation is the key to success

Remember when you were at school and you had a project to do? The first thing you probably did was create a spider diagram outlining the process you needed to follow. As adults, we often dive headfirst into tasks, like de-cluttering our space, without planning, so we often land up failing miserably. Whatever goals you have, spend some time on your spider diagram. The process will save you time and frustration.

All-important document archiving

Posted by Head Chiquita on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, In : Office Tips
The boring jobs seldom get done (and backing up your documents is one of those jobs). Regardless of its lack of appeal, it is essential to do electronic back-ups, so make it part of your routine. Choose a day of the month to do this and keep to it. There is nothing worse than losing all your work!

Centralise daily planning

Posted by Head Chiquita on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, In : Time Tips

I recently had an experience with a client where she used many small pieces of paper to record her 'to do' items. It became apparent that sooner or later the wheels would fall because pieces of paper can quickly be lost.

It is advisable to ONLY USE ONE DIARY and ONE CALENDAR as then everything is in one place and there isn't guess work about where it is. Then keep all these in a central place and when you have finished using something, put it back in that central place.
